Tamela Martin, MD

Dr. Tamela Martin was born in Orange, CA. After she graduated Valedictorian of her high school, she attended U.C. Berkeley (CA) for her Undergraduate degree in Human Physiology & Anatomy. Graduating Magna Cum Laude in just 3 years, while receiving the Phi Beta Kappa award for Physiology. She was granted early acceptance to U.C. San Francisco Medical school, where she continued her neuro-anatomy & ocular research. After completing her Transitional internship, she took 1 year off to work as a family practitioner (to gain experience in internal medicine that she felt would be useful for her career in Ophthalmology). She attended Stanford University Hospital for her Ophthalmology Residency where she served as Chief Resident.

After practicing in CA her entire career including owning her private practice from 1997 until 2021, she has relocated to Alabama, to be near her father and for balance of life and family. Dr. Martin is married, with 3 children.

She offers glaucoma medical & surgical treatments, oculoplastic surgical treatments as well as Botox, fillers and general ophthalmology such as cataracts and diseases of the eye.

Dr. Martin, like Descartes, believes “the eye is the window to the soul, & body” as every disease that affects the body demonstrates itself in the eye. She also believes “each patient is unique” and that “if you really listen to the patient, they will tell you their diagnosis- thus treat the person/human being and not the test (facts, numbers)”.
