Autologous Serum

Serum tears are created from the plasma in human blood. Autologous means it is your own blood that is used to make the tears. Blood is drawn at a lab, and delivered to a compounding pharmacy where the red cells are spun out of the fluid. The remaining serum is mixed with saline, and placed in individual bottles. These bottles can be stored in the freezer until used.

Serum tears are highly effective but because they are not medicine, they are not covered by insurance. They are $150-$250 depending on the amount of blood drawn.
